Game Report

Sheffield Steelers 2-6 Belfast Giants

Sheffield missing Regan Kelly (concussion).

5391 saw Belfast Giant's forwards totally outclass Sheffield and the visitors took full advantage of the home side's second period indiscipline.

Belfast's man of the match Todd Kelman helped himself to a brace, whilst the home side's Martin Massa never stopped trying to get the home Man of the MAtch.

Kelman opened the scoring burying his own rebound (3:50), but Steelers were quickly level when Mike Peron drove the net from right and the puck squirted free to Mark Dutiuame who lifted it home (4:54).

Jason Ruff showed similar composure to Kelman, arriving at the back post for a simple tap-in after Jody Lehman turned aside efforts from Mark Levers and George Awada.

Sheffield made Minard work early in the middle session but Leigh Jamieson extended the lead looping behind the net to lift the puck home(29:53).

Five minutes later a sweet passing move ended with Todd Kelman's firing to the right of the unsighted keeper (34:15) and Theo Fleury ended the game as a contest when he got away down the right and ripped a glorious shot inside far post (36:43).

Early in the final period Fleury robbed Warren Tait and took the puck down the right, waiting until Ed Courtenay got himself into space inside before delivering the pass and the Giants coach made no mistake (44:01).

Both sides gave their back-up goalies a skate and Sheffield's frustrations were summed up when Peron clashed with Fleury at the Belfast net. As the pair sat a single minor for roughing, Peron waved a towel on the end of his stick at the ref and earned an additional 10 minute misconduct penalty for abuse of an official (50:59).
