Game Report

For Sheffield no Shudra, add 15 Gavin Farrand; For Phoenix no Pitteri Lotila, Jeff Sebastian, Mark Thomas add 93 Rick Brebant

A disappointing 3414 see Phoenix skate off with the points thanks to a late winner as their special teams produce the goods.

Neither side did themselves any favours with 4 players ejected in the final 10 seconds of the game for 201 penalty minutes.

Sheffield started brightly, Bobyck netting a rebound in front of the left post (1.56) and when Darling skated into space on the left to drill hopme another (5.24) it seemed all too easy.

But the home side ran into penalty problems and the visitors were level by the end of the first.

First Dutiaume took a tripping penalty and Lankshear fired home through a crowd (12.31). Then Peron and Dutiaume headed for the box for 71 seconds of 5-on-3. Skovira scored with 8 seconds left of the two man advantage.

Into the second and Phoenix hit penalty trouble. Irving skated through to fire across Platt with Skovira sat in the box (21.58). Brebant went for cross-checking but Platt turned away three shots. Just before the mid-point Brebant took a 2+10 checking from behind penalty but only Irving tested Platt on the powerplay. With the sides skating 4-on-4 Lankshear took a slashing penalty for 77 seconds of 4-on-3 and talked his way to a misconduct.

The final period started relatively quietly with Sheffield comfortable at 3-2. But when Morin and Adams took roughing minors Yahata fired home 4-on-4 to sqaure the game (48.16). Phoenix then started to work Dopson before Platt denied Dutiaume and Darling with less than 5 minutes left.

Awada took a slashing penalty and halfway through Sheffield called a timeout.

At 58.20 a scuffle at the Manchester bench saw Peron take an elbows minor and he talked his way to an additional game misconduct. Just 24 seconds later Lankshear stepped into the slot to net the winner.

Sheffield took their netminder off almost immediately and Phoenix called a timeout with 28 seconds left.

Just 10 seconds remained when Darling delivered a monster check to stop Phoenix from hitting the empty net. In the mellee that followed 6 players took minors and 3 were ejected. Another 5 seconds and Adams followed with DeWaele and Lind sitting double minors.

A sad end to a game that deserved better.
